Our Maritime and Seaside Story was the theme for August, centred around the Spittal Seaside Festival and Berwick Lifeboat Festival.

The Berwick Watchtower Gallery in Tweedmouth hosted an exhibition created by local artists and craftspeople illustrating aspects of Berwick’s fishing, sea-faring and maritime heritage, and the development of Spittal from health spa to seaside resort.

The annual Spittal Seaside Festival had all the features of a traditional seaside holiday including fairground rides, stalls, Punch and Judy Show and donkey rides.

2015 was the 170th anniversary of the first lifeboat stationed at Berwick and the RNLI Lifeboat Festival at Carr Rock on 16th August marked the occasion with a special rescue demonstration by Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade using a traditional breeches buoy.
